Ghosts of the playground

February 6, 2007 at 11:36 pm (Pop thoughts, Sports thoughts)

Did you see the Snickers Superbowl commercial where the two guys accidentally kiss? Yeah it was gross, but did you know it is also really dangerous? In fact, according to Joe Solmonese of the Human Rights Campaign it produces some type of mystical ghost to appear on playgrounds and frighten little children.

Sound weird? I thought so too but take a look at his quote from a foxsports article

“This type of jeering from professional sports figures at the sight of two men kissing fuels the kind of anti-gay bullying that haunts countless gay and lesbian school children on playgrounds all across the country”

I don’t have kids but if I did I would be careful to make sure they aren’t gay or lesbian so that I could protect them from these “hauntings”.

While homosexuality is sinful it is important not to fall into sin by hating homosexuals. As far as the quote goes, I don’t see how professional sports figures are jeering at homosexuals seeing that the commercial didn’t show a single football player. In fact, the commercial made more fun of “homo-phobic”, macho men who had to do something manly (pull out chest hair) in order to feel better about themselves. I think Joe Salmonella just wanted a little bit of attention.

I have to wonder how many openly gay kids there are in elementary school. Last time I checked, high schools don’t have playgrounds. As bad as “human rights police” want it to be true, homosexuality isn’t something you are born with. There may be homo jeans but not homo genes.

    Joe,

You have forgotten about all those children who have been homosexually abused. They are the ones who suffer here, because commercials like this make them feel like something bad has happened to them when someone in their family homosexually abuses them, though they are in kindergarten. We all know as adults that this behavior is perfectly acceptable, and that the little kid should be perfectly ok with it. If the other children wouldn’t be making fun of homosexual activity, then these little children WOULD be ok with the homosexual abuse they are receiving. Then they would grow up to be well adjusted members of the homosexual community, and instead of hating their uncle for the rest of their life, perhaps they can unite with him as a life partner.

I have a dream. I have dreamed that little children would not be made to feel traumatized when homosexually abused by their uncles, fathers, cousins and brothers. I have a dream that society would accept these loving family ties for what they really are, so that society can recognize that these intimate and special bonds are perfectly natural. I have a dream in which every young boy has a “mentor”, just like in the writings of Plato (Symposium), and every man has a few boys to call his own.

My dream will never be realized until society stops making children feel guilty for something that isn’t their fault. My dream will never be realized until society stops making kids feel like homosexual relationships are “wrong”, whatever that means. We as a society need to encourage our children to explore all forms of sexuality, in order to develop understanding in them and to do away with prejudice. I propose mandated sexual education training for all children beginning in kindergarten. And I’m not just talking about reading books either. Then we will have a world worth living in, full of real human beings.

In case people are blinded by their distaste for Echo’s previous posts, please be aware that he has a sarcastic tone in the above comment.
