Muslim In Congress. Oath on the Koran

December 4, 2006 at 10:50 pm (God thoughts, Politics thoughts)

Ok so there is all kinds of talk (radio) buzzing about how Minnesota Democrat, Kieth Ellison (the first Muslim elected to the U.S. congress) wants to be sworn in taking his oath on the Koran instead of the Bible.

Maybe I am a little off base with this but I actually really don’t care if he wants to take his oath on the Koran, the book of Mormon or Mao Tse-Tung’s “Little Red Book.” The whole practice has become so diluted and distorted that it is actually quite disgusting.

The taking of an oath is a very significant event which binds a person to whatever they have sworn to do. The burden of the oath is not on the book, but on the individual. The significance of the book comes when the oath-taker says the words, “so help me God” at the end of their oath. It is at this point where Kieth Ellison condemns himself in taking the oath on the Koran. He asks for god’s help, but the god is petitioning is no god at all. His oath brings only judgment on himself.

As for those who take the oath on the Bible and yet don’t truly believe they are no better then Mr. Ellison. They may even be in a worse state. Quite frankly I don’t know how someone could swear on the Bible to defend the constitution of the United States and to uphold the duties of their position and then legislate grossly immoral laws such as the right to take innocent life because it within your own body. Mr. Ellison has much bigger problems then what book he will be sworn in on. As a democrat he will be forced by his peers to write laws that clearly violate Muslim principles. Even though there is no Allah to hold him accountable there are plenty of Islamic Terrorist who will quickly catch wind of his practices and reward him with their own form of accountability.

The “Culture War” that the United States is waged in will not be won politically, but spiritually. It is up to the Church to rise up and change the social climate of hasty oath taking and breaking by being people of their word, and that can only be done when the words “so help me God” are uttered to Jesus Christ.

Tried to find disagreement, but I think you stumbled into the truth here, grasshopper. I laughed at a debate over this on Hannity and Colmes, because I don’t think it’s any big deal either. Now if this new congressman goes on a jihad and freaks out on the floor of the house, THAT might be interesting.

I don’t think Mr. Ellison is that kind of a muslim, otherwise how could he be a democrat?

Saw this quote regarding Mr. Ellison’s faith on his website…

“People draw strength and moral courage from a variety of religious traditions. Mine have come from both Catholicism and Islam. I was raised Catholic and later became a Muslim while attending Wayne State University. I am inspired by the Qur’an’s message of an encompassing divine love, and a deep faith guides my life every day.”

From this it is quite clear that 1. Mr. Ellison has never read the Koran and 2. Since he doesn’t know squat about Islam, his “deep faith” must be faith in himself.
