Fresh brewed?

December 8, 2008 at 9:30 am (Uncategorized)

I’m having a bit of a chatoic morning. Mondays are usually a little busier than most days, hence the expression, “somebody’s got a case of the mondays.”

While I don’t think it’s that bad yet it appears to be well on its way.  One of the things the really got under my skin today was a debate about how long coffee can sit on the burner and still be considered “fresh”.

Rather than explaining the circumstances of the debate and clouding your judgment I will ask some simple  questions…

1) If you walked up to get a cup of coffee and knew the exact time that coffee had been sitting on the burner, what is the minimum number of minutes you would feel that coffee has been there too long and a new pot is in order?

2) What duration of time sitting on the burner do you feel the freshness and quality of coffee has been compromised?

3) If you are person who adds things like sugar, sweetner, cream or milk does the acceptable time change? If so, how?

4) How long do you think places like starbucks, dunkin donuts, 7/11 and your average gas station keep their coffee out before brewing a new pot?

5) If someone tells you at coffee is “fresh brewed” how long ago do you think the coffee was brewed?

Ok so I realize these questions sound similar in many regards but I really feel that injustice is occuring this morning so please give me your honest opinions and include what kind of coffee drinker you are (i.e. black, sugary, ceamy, social, emrgency, starbucks latte dotte, etc).

Doing it by the book

December 4, 2008 at 9:35 am (Uncategorized)

So I was throwing out some trash and I uncovered the fantasy football magazine that I had paid 8 bucks for this past summer to help prepare me for the FFL season. Just for kicks I thought I would take a look at some of their projections and compare it with how things actually worked out.

ok, ok, so only a nerd would do something like this and only a nerd would enjoy it. So if you’re a nerd, this post is for you… Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Make Like George Clooney And Solve This Thing

December 2, 2008 at 10:42 am (Uncategorized)

There is extreme chaos in fantasy land and so in an effort keep our inboxes a little less cluttered I have volunteered my site to act as a message board for all commentary regarding the conundrum. I ask that Bruce S please not read this post because we are discussing the possibility of requesting you as an unbiased mediator. If that is the case then you reading the comments could taint your judgment.

Bail out of the bailout!

September 29, 2008 at 12:36 pm (Uncategorized)

I am very proud of the brave men and women who actually did their job and represented the people who put them where they are by refusing to vote for this horrible misuse of taxpayers money.

It has to stop. If it means 5 to 10 years of financial struggles for the country than so be it. Suck it up.

Nancy Pelosi is ticked off because she stands to lose millions of dollars in stock if we, the taxpayers, don’t loan her our hard earned money.

Well Mrs. Pelosi and the rest of you evil, greedy, “lawmakers” let me say this in paraphrasing a well known Alaskan governor…
“Thanks, but no thanks on the bailout to nowhere!”

Ahhh…. October

September 29, 2008 at 12:25 pm (Uncategorized)

Now comes the true test of my baseball fandom. With the Padres being embarrassingly bad this season does my passion for the game itself still leave me interested?

Maybe I’m not AS passionate as I could be, but I am still quite interested to see how things shake out.

First of all I am desperately rooting for the white sox to win today and force a 1 game playoff with the twins. After what happened last year I’ve come to realize that a 1 game playoff just to make the playoffs is more exciting then all of the playoffs combined.

so here is how I see the playoffs breaking down… Read the rest of this entry »

NFL Conspiracy Theory

September 18, 2008 at 4:44 pm (Uncategorized)

As I was driving home today I heard on the radio that Brandon Marshall has been charged with domestic violence from an altercation in March. It was added that the NFL was aware of the possibility of these charges even when they had reduced his suspension from 3 games to 1 without any explanation. Read the rest of this entry »

12 Step Padres Recovery Program

July 14, 2008 at 8:25 am (Uncategorized)

As difficult as it is for me to say this I believe the bell has tolled on the Padres season. Even though the deficit they face is hardly insurmountable it appears obvious that the team has called it quits and is now looking ahead to next season.

So I will follow suit and give my recommendations for what the Padres should do with the team a well as with the coaching staff… Read the rest of this entry »

The 2008 Padres Prediction Post

February 29, 2008 at 10:17 am (Sports thoughts, Uncategorized)

While the 2007 Padres Prediction Post was remarkably accurate in it’s final result (predicted number of wins 90, actual number of wins 89) I have decided to attempt a different strategy in calculating the Padres regular season record for 2008.

Last year my strategy was to compare the 2007 Padres to the 2006 Padres are see where the improvements and regressions might be. This year, rather than comparing the Padres of now to the Padres of then I am going to be comparing the Padres of now to the other teams in the division on a position by position basis. Fun Stuff for San Diegans

January 10, 2008 at 10:03 am (Random thoughts, Uncategorized)

It feels like forever since I’ve written a blog.

(but it’s not like my lack of entries have diminished my blogging activities because Alex provokes me like an Iranian speed boat)

anyway I read a nifty little story in the UT this morning that provided a worthwhile link and subsequent commentary.

Here is the story… San Diego named on the “It list”

And here is the commentary… Read the rest of this entry »

One year of an inflated ego and diminshed productivty: Part 4 “The Dandies”

November 9, 2007 at 8:52 am (Random thoughts, Uncategorized)

My loyalest readers know that outside of Sports the only T.V. program I really enjoy is “The Office”. Even though the current season has taken a gradual descent into generic sitcom hell I can always go back to the DVD’s of the earlier seasons.

One of the greatest episodes of all time was the premier of season 2, “The Dundies” In this episode Michael gives out his annual awards to the employees of Dunder Mifflin.

So without further adieu I give you you the Daniel’s Den version… The Dandies! Read the rest of this entry »
