Stony People

September 10, 2009 at 2:13 pm (God thoughts)

As mentioned a couple of days ago I am attempting a couple of trial posts to see if the Den should remain open.

Today’s post is a brief devotional. Enjoy… Read the rest of this entry »

Terrible Times… (not a baseball post)

May 9, 2008 at 9:26 am (God thoughts, Politics thoughts, Pop thoughts)

If you are anything like me you get really excited and really interested whenever something local makes national headlines.

Lately it seems that I’ve had a lot to be excited about and interested in.

First it was the shark attack at Solana Beach. I’m interested in that because I swim in those waters (well maybe not that far north, but close enough to scare the crap out of me).

Then it was the pipe bomb at the federal building downtown. This is interesting to me because I had passed by that exact location almost daily for a month while on jury duty.

This week though things got really close to home when last week it wouldn’t have really been that big of a deal to me. Read the rest of this entry »

Confession

April 25, 2008 at 10:54 am (God thoughts)

This post is going to seem quite out of the ordinary for my blog. I’m going to be more personal than I think I’ve ever been before. Generally I use my blog as an outlet for my opinions more than anything else. I do this so that I don’t let out my opinions when I’m preaching or teaching the Word of God (a place where opinion just doesn’t belong). So those things that I think, feel, and am annoyed by, I say here instead of saying them in a place of authority (from the pulpit). Read the rest of this entry »

Holy Global Climate Change Batman!

March 10, 2008 at 7:14 am (God thoughts, Politics thoughts)

Today’s Foxnews.com headlines had a very religious and a very environmental tilt to them.

First there was this headline Recycle or Repent which describes the Catholic church’s updating the list of mortal sins, adding such things as “ruining the environment” and “carrying out morally debatable scientific experiments” to the list of Mortal Sins.

My favorite line from that article quotes Bishop Gianfranco Girotti, head of the Apostolic Penitentiary, the Vatican body which oversees confessions and plenary indulgences…

He said that priests must take account of “new sins which have appeared on the horizon of humanity as a corollary of the unstoppable process of globalization.” Whereas sin in the past was thought of as being an individual matter, it now has “social resonance.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Top Ten Christmas Songs EVER

November 29, 2007 at 12:14 pm (God thoughts, Pop thoughts, Random thoughts)

How about some leftovers? I am re-posting this from last year just in case you became a fan of the Den some time in 2008!

I love Christmas music. I’m sure you do as well. I like to blast it out my car windows when I roll up next to some fender rattling bass thumper at the Poway and Community road intersection. I thoroughly enjoy that special genre of music that transforms our sunny Southern Californian mindsets into nostalgic winter-wonderland-wanter’s.

Christmas music is so peculiar. It makes us long for things we might have never even experienced. Does anyone else ever shiver when they hear “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”? Has anyone ever actually seen chestnuts roasting on an open fire?

For your reading pleasure I give you a nice little den diversion dedicated to the songs that make the season. Read the rest of this entry »

Do these genes make me look gay?

October 16, 2007 at 6:56 pm (God thoughts, Politics thoughts)

Once again we read of a new effort for scientist to find the “gay gene”. This foxnews article describes a federally funded study of 1000 pairs a gay brothers that will determine if they really are “born that way” and that it’s “natural”. Read the rest of this entry »

Prayer Police

July 2, 2007 at 5:09 pm (God thoughts, Politics thoughts)

If you’ve had e-mail for more than a week you’ve probably gotten that ridiculous forward recalling the numerous school shootings followed by a “student” “praying” to “God“…

“Dear God why aren’t you stopping these things from happening in our schools?” and “God’s” typical response is, “Dear student, I’m not allowed in schools.” Read the rest of this entry »

eXterminating the eXemplification of Xenophobia

June 18, 2007 at 6:00 pm (God thoughts, Politics thoughts)

I recently had to delete a comment on my Fast Food Wars post because it contained some vulgarities and insults that I consider inappropriate for my blog. Unfortunately the comment contained a number of topics I consider relevant and worth discussing. The following is an edited version of the accusatory comment. Read the rest of this entry »

Shall We Dance?

June 5, 2007 at 5:01 pm (God thoughts)

Dancing is a positive, natural, reactionary inclination that has been suppressed or perverted by culture.

That’s my conclusion.

Now I’ll tell you how I got there. Read the rest of this entry »

Playing God

April 26, 2007 at 6:06 pm (God thoughts, Politics thoughts, Pop thoughts)

The desire to be God is nothing new. It is as old, if not older then the earth itself. Ezekiel’s prophecy against the “King of Tyre” in Ezekiel 28 has long been hypothesized as referring to Satan. The model of perfection, full of wisdom and beauty. He had it all, position, power, wealth, splendor, everything anyone could want. But he became corrupted. Wickedness was found in him, violence, deception, sin. Sin ultimately is the downfall of all, and no other sin is as cataclysmic as pride. Pride sneaks it’s way in with the good. Things like wisdom and beauty, if not drenched in humility and understanding lead people to this type of thinking “I am a god. I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.” (Ezekiel 28:2).
