WOW! I saw this commercial on TV last night and immediately thought it was link worthy to this post. In it two "Reverends", Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson are sitting on a couch in front of some body of water talking about how even thought their politics differ they can both agree on one thing....

Taking care of our planet. In fact Pat Robertson goes so far as to call it our "fragile" planet.

http://www.wecansolveit.org/page/s/unlikelyalliance!

The funny thing is that for a moment I actually thought the one thing they would agree on was that salvation was through Jesus Christ. hahaha ok maybe not but still the point is that religion and politics as well as religion and environmentalism don't work.

On a more positive note Time had a recent cover story and newsweek a recent article which both expressed something I have been very adamant about.

Ethanol is BAD. It's bad for the economy and bad for the environment and in general bad for the planet.
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1725975,00.html
http://www.newsweek.com/id/130628

The irony of it is that about a month ago there was a back cover ad on one of the two which showed a corn kernel and said "60 miles per kernel". within weeks the magazine has a scathing article about the irrationality involved in the overall production of ethanol and how the negatives far outweigh the positives.

It's really not that difficult to figure out. Which is a better source of energy for our vehicles; Something we would eat or something we would have no other use for at all? hmmmm

And one more tremendous link regarding how much damage is being done to the California coast because we aren't drilling for oil.

http://www.soscalifornia.org/

Evidently "oil seeps" leak out about 86,000 barrels annually along the CA coast, mostly in Santa Barbara. That's just what is leaking out of the oil reserve we are unwilling to tap due to environmental concerns.

We're so stupid.

<blockquote>Mgr Girotti said genetic modification, carrying out experiments on humans, polluting the environment, causing social injustice, causing poverty, becoming obscenely wealthy and taking drugs were all mortal sins.</blockquote>

See any that perhaps the catholic church might be guilty of?

Local San Diego weatherman, John Coleman is bringing the debate to court by suing Al Gore for fraud. Woo hoo. This could be very interesting or it could turn out to be nothing. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,337710,00.html

We shall see.

Well, that we shouldn't destroy the planet probably isn't a debatable point.

But what acts actually constitute destroying the planet is way, way open to debate.

So for example, if you've got a couple hundred nuclear bombs, and you use them to destroy the planet, you're a sinner. Or if you're Darth Vader and you've got the Death Star's big gun pointed at earth and you press the trigger, wow, I don't want to be you on Judgment Day.

But if you fail to recycle, you have not violated the law of God.

God, not the church, is the one who gets to say what God's law is. That's why we call it God's law, because he's the one who gave it.

And Scripture makes it very clear what God's law is. He gave it to us in 10 easily understood commandments. And for those of us too dimwitted to comprehend 10 commandments, he gave us 2: love God with all your heart, etc, and your neighbor as yourself.

Destroying the planet, if indeed we ARE destroying the planet, can certainly fall into the category of pleasing ourselves at the expense of our neighbor, if our great-great grandchildren are also our neighbors (and they are).

But given the fact that there is no clear, undeniable evidence that links human behavior to a destruction of some kind to the environment, therefore, the Pope is adding to God's law.

The reason why he's adding to God's law and not simply expounding it is simple. First, if there is any climate change going on (and this past winter seems to contradict such a claim), it may be simply a natural cycle. Second, if it is not a natural cycle, it may be caused by something we don't understand.

The science involved in climate change and global warming and all that is fishy at best. Scientists who fail to tow the line quickly find themselves black listed and cut out of the community. There is a lot of pressure to tow the line. New ideas are not listened to objectively.

Well, it just goes to prove that the Apostle Paul was more right back then than we give him credit for. He said that men had worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator.

Indeed, there is nothing new under the sun.

And now the creation worshipers have gotten the Pope to tow the line, declaring it a sin to harm the creation. Love your neighbor as yourself has been replaced with "love the creation as yourself." Animals have become people, trees are said to have a right to life, and the planet is referred to as our mother.

Meanwhile, children are ripped apart in the wombs of mothers who see them as an inconvenience, and everyone's afraid to call it wrong, because it's telling a woman what to do with her body.

We are becoming more and more everyday a society that worships womanhood, or motherhood more specifically. The mother earth is sacred, and mothers have a right to kill their children. The divine right of kings has been replaced with the divine right of the earth and soccer moms.

Re: "Morally debatable scientific experiments" being called "sin".

How does this make sense? is it debatable or not?
