The Top Ten Christmas Songs EVER
How about some leftovers? I am re-posting this from last year just in case you became a fan of the Den some time in 2008!
I love Christmas music. I’m sure you do as well. I like to blast it out my car windows when I roll up next to some fender rattling bass thumper at the Poway and Community road intersection. I thoroughly enjoy that special genre of music that transforms our sunny Southern Californian mindsets into nostalgic winter-wonderland-wanter’s.
Christmas music is so peculiar. It makes us long for things we might have never even experienced. Does anyone else ever shiver when they hear “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”? Has anyone ever actually seen chestnuts roasting on an open fire?
For your reading pleasure I give you a nice little den diversion dedicated to the songs that make the season. Read the rest of this entry »
A Man’s Review of San Diego Shopping Malls
I have a well known and strictly enforced rule in my family that we will not be “getting into the Holiday Spirit” until, at the very earliest, the day after Thanksgiving.
There will be NO Christmas decorations put up.
There will be NO singing of Christmas songs.
There will be NO watching of Christmas movies.
There will be NO writing of Christmas cards.
It’s entirely unfair to Thanksgiving to be giving Christmas preferential treatment. Alas, our culture doesn’t feel the same and has made a perverse habit of forcing Christmas down our throats earlier and earlier each year to the point where not only is Thanksgiving getting robbed of it’s due respect, but even Halloween has taken a back seat to Christmas and in some truly deplorable cases even Columbus day.
Isn’t it iconic… don’t you think? A little too iconic… Yeah I really do think.
An icon is something that is larger than life, something or someone who defines a culture. An icon is a symbol that unfolds a rich tapestry of significance, value, and history. Read the rest of this entry »
One year of an inflated ego and diminshed productivty: Part 4 “The Dandies”
My loyalest readers know that outside of Sports the only T.V. program I really enjoy is “The Office”. Even though the current season has taken a gradual descent into generic sitcom hell I can always go back to the DVD’s of the earlier seasons.
One of the greatest episodes of all time was the premier of season 2, “The Dundies” In this episode Michael gives out his annual awards to the employees of Dunder Mifflin.
So without further adieu I give you you the Daniel’s Den version… The Dandies! Read the rest of this entry »
One year of an inflated ego and diminished productivity:Part 3 “Season Stats”
Mad props go out to Rubrad for using his super skills to compile this list of statistics. As a sports nut I am really into stats. Stats are how we track a players performance. They tell you how much value a player has, what kind of contributions he makes to the team, and mostly importantly stats tell us who the champions are.
These stats are different than sports stats because they don’t tell us anything about winners.
They tell us about losers.
So congratulations to you who made the “top 10″ in any category. You are a certified “geek”. Or if you prefer a “dweeb”, “nerd”, “lame”, or maybe you should just stick with a “loser”. Read the rest of this entry »
One year of an inflated ego and diminished productivity: Part 2 “Blog of the Year”
I am convinced that a large part of my readership keeps coming back simply because they never know when the next entry might be interesting to them.
Although I’ve been accused of being more interested in sports than any other subject I like to think of myself as being somewhat eclectic. Read the rest of this entry »
One year of an inflated ego and diminished productivity: Part 1 “What kind of reader are you?”
Well here it is. Friday will mark the first time that the Earth will have completed it’s orbit around the Sun while Daniel’s Den has been an official blog.
In honor of the 1-year anniversary of my addiction I have planned a number of celebratory blog entries. The first is to take a survey of how many “loyal readers” I have actually acquired and maintained over this past year. Read the rest of this entry »
