Bonus Post: Fast Food Wars

May 29, 2007 at 6:39 pm (Pop thoughts)

I was totally satisfied with my “fav-5″ post as being enough blog fodder for this week until I saw this story that Carl’s Jr is suing Jack in the Box for their commercials.

I find this so ironic because I went on a 2-year boycott of Carl’s Jr because of the inappropriateness of their commercials (the one with Paris Hilton washing a car) and I laughed out loud at the Jack in the Box ones (where they make fun of the name “angus”).

It’s sad to see the denigration of our society where you are allowed to treat women as pieces of meat but get sued for making fun of cows as pieces of meat.

With Memorial day behind us it’s now time to look ahead towards summer vacation. Vacations were a HUGE part of my childhood. As long as I can remember we were blessed with looking ahead towards the month of August as vacation time. Vacations were so instrumental in not only building family togetherness but also in educating us about the world around us.

I feel like there are much better things that I can put into my ears. Most notably talk. I love talk radio. Talk radio is the single greatest medium for communication. Did you know that more people listen to Rush Limbaugh thAn watch American Idol? Read the rest of this entry »

If these don’t work you can just ride your bike to work.

Summer is right around the corner. You know how I know? Well for one thing I have a calendar and it tells me that today is May 15th and I remember from Kindergarten that May was the month before June and June was when we stopped having to go to Kindergarten so that all helps, but there’s also this…

Gas Prices sky rocketing! Yep, every May, as sure as the leaves begin to fall in February and the Christmas decorations go up in October around these parts, we can count on seeing gas prices soar. And just like the weather everybody complains about it but nobody does anything to change it. Well I for one am fed up with it. Read the rest of this entry »

Only in America: “Rattlesnake-avoidance class” for your dog

May 8, 2007 at 4:08 pm (Random thoughts)

If you know me, you know that I don’t like pets. Cats and dogs are the primary source of my angst but birds, fish and reptiles are generally included in causing my mind to grimace and my shoulders to cringe. I don’t like them the same way I don’t like mayonnaise. I find them completely repugnant but I understand that some peoples tastes have been shaped by the culture of America and thus they now embrace these unnatural likes. Read the rest of this entry »
